Warding off the winter blues: Three of Franschhoek’s Finest Winter Eateries

As the days become shorter, the nights longer, and we wave goodbye to long, lazy, lunches on sun drenched terraces, it can be very tempting to hibernate indoors until summer comes knocking again.

Franschhoek might be best known for its ideal summer weather, but for 4 months of the year, it shows off a different, yet equally charming side – picturesque snowy mountain peaks, roaring fire places and plenty of red wine of course.

So if you’re headed to the valley this winter, make sure to make a beeline for one of these cosy eateries, each of which is sure to satisfy that need for hearty food and toasty ambience:

Foliage Restaurant

Spearheaded by forager, Chris Erasmus, and his field-to-fork ethos, Foliage is a place where anything goes, and the menu is built around what’s growing and available at any given time. The menu’s backbone are ingredients that can be foraged from surrounding hills, so expect to indulge in a menu rich in seasonal fare, beautified with edible plants, mushrooms and flavouring stocks.

The contemporary, eclectic menu is full of delicious, hearty dishes, whilst the interior’s roaring fireplace is sure to hit the spot when the temperatures start to plummet.
