The summer heat might be slowly ebbing away, but there’s still plenty of balmy weather in store for the Franschhoek valley. As the mercury slips to more manageable levels, the great outdoors become even more appealing, with the spectacular surrounds of the winelands offering up the perfect setting for an al fresco picnic.
Thanks to the numerous markets, delis and farm stalls in the region, staging your own gourmet picnic is a fairly easy undertaking, but if you’re looking for an extra special day out, there are a few spectacular spots you simply shouldn’t miss.
Here are three of our favourite spots to sit beneath the trees and enjoy the culinary spoils of Franschhoek:
Settle down in a shady glen amidst the age-old oak trees at Allée Bleue, and take in the spectacular views of the Drakenstein Mountains as you sip on one of the estate’s acclaimed wines. There you’ll be treated to a delicious spread of braised beef wraps, local cheeses, cold meats and freshly baked bread, with a few enticing dessert options thrown in for good measure. Picnic baskets also include one glass of wine per adult.
Vegetarian option available.
